State Senators Colby Coash and Scott Price were kind enough to stop by and give us an update on what has turned out to be a very exciting, and at times, controversial, legislative session.

Lincoln City Councilman Adam Hornung stopped by and briefed the group about his priorities for the upcoming city council session. He also spoke about the need for individuals to get active on the local level. The city of Lincoln should be very grateful that we have such a young, bright, and highly articulate public servant who is truly guided by strong conservative principles.

One of our members passed out a fabulous article by the Wall Street Journal about how organized labor has become by far the most powerful political force in government. We highly recommend you take some time to digest this read and then pass it along to your friends.

We also had a presentation by members of the 912 Project-Nebraska. For those of who might be unfamiliar with the 912 Project, it was created by radio talk-show host Glenn Beck, and is:

“designed to bring us all back to the place we were on September 12, 2001. The day after America was attacked, we were not obsessed with Red States, Blue States or political parties. We were united as Americans, standing together to protect the values and principles of the greatest nation ever created.”

The 912 Project-Nebraska has over 500 members and continues to grow in membership each week. Comprised mostly of individuals who had otherwise been non-political before joining the 912 Project, they are focused on educating Nebraskans about the proper role of our federal government as described in our Constitution, while inspiring people to connect with each other in a constructive manner, and provide for a large and peaceful movement for Nebraskans who wish to preserve a U.S. government that is by the people and for the people.

Nebraska State Treasurer Shane Osborn spoke about his transparency website, NebraskaSpending.com. Already the most comprehensive transparency website in the country, NebraskaSpending.com is preparing to unveil a third update that Treasurer Osborn believes will add some serious muscle and provide Nebraskans with an outstanding educational tool.

The Tea Party protests, in their current form, began in early 2009 when Rick Santelli, the On Air Editor for CNBC, set out on a rant to expose the bankrupt liberal agenda of the White House Administration and Congress. Specifically, the flawed “Stimulus Bill” and pork filled budget.

During Rick’s rant, he called for a “Chicago tea Party” where advocates of the free-market system could join in a protest against out of control government spending.

A few days later, grassroots activists and average Joe Americans began organizing what would soon become the Nationwide Chicago Tea Party effort.

On February 27th, an estimated 30,000 Americans took to the street in 40+ cities accross the country in the first nationwide “Tea Party” protest.Organizers of the February 27th events pledged to continue on with an even bigger and better protest to follow the first. With April 15th being “Tax Day”, it was decided to schedule the second round of Tea Party protests to ride alongside the tax deadline.

And with that, the “Tax Day Tea Party”, the second round of the Nationwide Tea Party protests, moved into reality.

This site will act as an extension of our monthly meetings by providing our members with a resource to help them stay connected with each other while also keeping them engaged in the Nebraska political process. As is the case with our monthly meetings, the interests of our members and the issues they consider to be important will drive the content of this website.
